Laura Maria Herța

Short Bio

Laura Maria Herța – PhD in History, Associate Professor of International Relations and Vice-dean at the Faculty of European Studies in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She is also senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Author of several books and articles on the history of Yugoslavia and the wars in Former Yugoslavia, as well as author of chapters and articles tackling EU as normative power, humanitarian intervention in Sub-Saharan Africa, transformation of war, the role of ethnicity in South Caucasus. Interested in: peace studies and security studies, humanitarian intervention, the Balkan region, Sub-Saharan Africa, social-constructivist theorizing.

Silviu Nate

Short Bio

Dr. Silviu NATE is an associate professor at the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, the Security Studies undergraduate program coordinator, and the director of the Global Studies Center. His analytical interests focus mainly on the Wider Black Sea Region and transatlantic relations.

He coordinated several policy papers on energy, migration, security in the Black Sea and influenced strategic decisions for strengthening the Allied presence in the region.

Areas of interest: Global power distribution, the transatlantic partnership, European security, the Wider Black Sea Region, strategic culture, Security Sector Reform, energy security, IR methodologies, analytic frameworks and tools.

Kateryna Shynkaruk

Dr. Kateryna Shynkaruk is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy in Kyiv, Ukraine since 2016. She is an Associated Fellow at the Analytical Center of Ukrainian Catholic University. In 2013-2020, Kateryna worked as the lead local expert on internal politics and parliamentary affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. Prior to that, she was a Senior Research Fellow in International Studies at the Kyiv based Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting. Kateryna received her M.A. in International Relations (2006) and Ph.D. in Global Political Affairs (2011) from Kyiv Taras Shevchenko University.

Oana Poiană

Short Bio

Oana Poiană works as a researcher at the Institute of International Relations and Area Studies, Faculty of European Studies (BBU) where she has also taught a course on the Black Sea region and seminars on European public policies and EU’s role in the global economy. For the last decade, she conducted research on the Black Sea regionalization and regional cooperation with a focus on energy security. She holds a joint PhD degree in International Relations and European Studies from Babeș-Bolyai University and Otto von Guericke University. She holds a BA degree in Political Science from Babeș-Bolyai University, an MA in European Affairs and Program Management from the Faculty of European Studies, Babeș-Bolyai University and an MA in International Relations from Central European University. Currently, she is part of the Connect Black Sea Project as a Young Black Sea Ambassador.

Anda Ghilescu

Short Bio

Anda Ghilescu obtained her Master’s Degree on International Relations, Foreign Policy and Crisis Management from Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca. She has a keen interest in American foreign policy in the Middle East and has published several articles on the topic, with a particular focus on the United States’ approach towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Ioana Constantin-Bercean

Short Bio

Ioana Constantin-Bercean, PhD, is an international affair professional with solid academic experience and has worked abroad for over a decade. She is the author of numerous articles in specialized publications dealing with topics related to nonproliferation and Middle East, particularily on Iran. She has studied or collaborated on various projects as an associate researcher at various Western institutions: International Institute for Peace (Vienna, Austria), Diplomatische Akademie Wien (Austria), Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non‑Proliferation (Austria) and Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. (USA). She is fluent in English, French and Spanish, and speaks Farsi, Arabic and Italian conversationally. Fields of interest: international relations, foreign policy, security studies, behavioral sociology in international relations. Ioana is currently employed as Scientific Researcher at “Ion I.C. Brătianu” Institute of Political Science and International Relations, Romanian Academy.

Raluca Moldovan

Short Bio

Raluca MOLDOVAN is Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations and German Studies of Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj Napoca, where she has been teaching since 2004 at graduate and undergraduate levels. She is a PhD in history with a thesis on the representation of the Holocaust on film. Her more recent research interests include immigration studies, mass media and the contemporary Middle East. She has published numerous scholarly articles on topics ranging from history to mass culture in many Romanian and international journals. She is a member of the European and Romanian Associations of American Studies and the Association for the Study of Nationalities (Columbia University, New York). Among her latest publications is the edited volume The European Union. Policies, Perspectives and Politics (New York, Nova Science Publishers, 2020).

Sergiu MIȘCOIU is Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of European Studies, Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) where he serves as a Director of the Centre for International Cooperation and as Director of the Centre for African Studies (Cestaf). He is permenent member and PhD tutor of the LIPHA Laboratory at the University Paris-Est (France), associate professor of the universities of Créteil (France), Szeged (Hungary), and Cheikh Anta Diop Dakar (Senegal), and has been leading five major international research projects. He wrote four books, edited and co-edited 20 volumes and wrote 120 scientific articles and book chapters in English, French, and Romanian. His main research interests are the constructivist and the alternative theories applied to the nation building processes, to populism and to the political transition and transformation in Central-Eastern European and Central and Western Francophone Africa.

Short Bio

Melania-Gabriela Ciot, Ph.D (born 1975), is Associate Professor at the Faculty of European Studies of  University Babeș-Bolyai Cluj-Napoca. She is the Director of “European Paradigm” Doctoral School (in the field of international relations and European studies), the coordinator of MA Program Management and International and European Negotiations and of Center of International Negotiations. Dr. Melania-Gabriela Ciot has an intensive editorial and research activity, which includes books (17), chapters in collective volumes (28), articles and studies in national and international journals (65). She participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences and projects as manager, coordinator or member of research teams. She was State Secretary for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania between 2017-2019, being appointed Special Representative of Romanian Government for the Relation with European Parliament for the period when Romania held the Presidency of the Council of EU.
