The Centre for the Study of the EU’s External Relations and the Global Order (EUXGLOB), Faculty of European Studies, Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, is pleased to announce the call for papers for the sixth edition of the EUXGLOB International Conference.
Building on the success of previous five editions, this year’s edition turns to one of the most urgent strategic questions facing Europe today: how the EU and NATO can strengthen defence, security and democratic resilience on their Eastern frontier.
Russia’s war against Ukraine has transformed the European security order and placed the Eastern flank of the EU and NATO at the centre of the continent’s strategic future. The Black Sea region, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Central and Eastern Europe more broadly have become key spaces where military pressure, hybrid threats, cyber operations, energy insecurity, information manipulation and democratic vulnerability intersect. These developments require not only stronger defence capabilities, but also deeper cooperation between academic communities, public institutions, think tanks, civil society and international partners.
The 6th EUXGLOB International Conference invites scholars, researchers, practitioners, policy experts, PhD candidates and early-career researchers to reflect on the evolving role of Europe’s Eastern frontier as both a zone of vulnerability and a strategic shield for the European and transatlantic security order. The conference will explore the impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the future of EU–NATO cooperation, the security of the Black Sea region, the pressures affecting the Republic of Moldova, the development of European defence, and the growing relevance of hybrid, cyber and information threats. These priorities reflect the thematic focus of the new edition, which is dedicated to defence, European security and democratic resilience at the EU and NATO Eastern frontier.
The organisers welcome paper proposals addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:

♦ Black Sea Security: military adaptation, regional instability and strategic competition
♦ The Republic of Moldova and the Eastern Neighbourhood: resilience under pressure
♦ European Defence and Strategic Autonomy:capabilities, coordination and political constraints
♦ EU–NATO Cooperation: institutional responses to emerging security threats
♦ Hybrid Warfare and Democratic Resilience: political interference, societal vulnerability and institutional responses
♦ Disinformation, Cognitive Security and Information Warfare: narratives, actors and countermeasures
♦ Energy Security and Strategic Dependencies: lessons from the Eastern flank
♦ Civil Society, Media Literacy and Public Resilience:strengthening democratic defence
The conference will be organised in a hybrid format, with panels held onsite at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and online for international participants unable to travel. The working language of the conference is English. No participation fee is required.
Meals and coffee breaks will be provided during the two days of the event for onsite participants. Upon request, the organisers may assist with accommodation reservations; accommodation costs are not covered.

The EUXGLOB Center of the Faculty of European Studies, Babeș-Bolyai University, is pleased to announce the publication of the fourth volume in the series dedicated to the international conference THE EU AFTER THE EUROPEAN ELECTIONS: Priorities, Challenges, Relations with the World.
Edited by Valentin Naumescu, Raluca Moldovan, and Adrian I. Bogdan, the volume addresses key issues such as:
the European Union’s priorities after the European elections,
the political and institutional challenges facing the EU,
the Union’s external relations in a complex global context.
This publication continues the EUXGLOB series edited at Babeș-Bolyai University, further strengthening the contribution of Romanian and international academic research to the understanding of international processes and the European Union’s role in the world.
Building on the work of the previous three volumes, The New Transatlantic Relations and the Perspectives of the Global Order (2021), The EU and NATO Approaches to the Black Sea Region (2022), and Perspectives of the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood (2023), this fourth volume expands the dialogue on Europe’s external relations and its place in the evolving global order.
The launch of EUXGLOB Volume 4 will take place on October 31, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the amphitheater of the Bihor County Library in Oradea. All interested scholars, students, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
THE EU AND NATO WORKING TOGETHER: Fighting the war on disinformation in Central and Eastern Europe

The Centre for the Study of the EU’s External Relations and the Global Order (EUXGLOB) of the Faculty of European Studies, Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj, and the think-tank Initiative for European Democratic Culture (ICDE) are pleased to announce the call for papers for the fifth edition of our annual international conference. This year’s topic will focus on disinformation in Central and Eastern Europe.
The stability and security of Central and Eastern Europe are being gravely endangered by disinformation. Recent events have demonstrated how well-planned campaigns can destabilize democratic institutions and damage transatlantic collaboration. To address this crisis, the European Union and The North Atlantic Treaty Organization must work together, utilizing the Union’s legislative frameworks and NATO’s strategic communication experience. It is essential to address topics such as media literacy, trust in democratic processes, the bolstering of cybersecurity in forums where practical remedies against disinformation can be presented to the wider public, therefore in the Fifth EUXGLOB International Conference, the authors are encourage to share their expertise on the examination of policy responses, technological innovation, and multilateral cooperation.

2024 is a crucial political and electoral year, with significant consequences. The Centre for the Study of the EU’s External Relations and the Global Order (EUXGLOB) of the Faculty of European Studies, Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj Napoca, in partnership with the Representation of the European Commission (REC) in Romania and the think tank Initiative for European Democratic Culture (ICDE) are delighted to announce the call for papers for the fourth edition of our annual international conference, dedicated to the post-elections prospects of the EU.
Building on an already established academic tradition, this edition aims to bring together academics, scholars, policymakers, students and an interested public to discuss salient issues regarding the priorities, challenges and relations of the EU with the world.
